The so popular JDC Challenge game has been undergoing some changes lately. The new GOLD level has been added and the interface has got a face-lift. Now we’re also introducing the in-game periodical stats for all premium members. We’ll explain the details and how you should use this for your daily darts practice.
Most of you probably know about the JDC Challenge game already, but if you’re completely new to this, here’s a short story. The Junior Darts Corporation (JDC) was founded by Steve Brown, a former professional darts player within the PDC. He invented the game to add a grading feature for the players at the JDC Academies. Since GoDartsPro partnered up with JDC back in 2018, the gradings are done weekly at the academies all over the world through the GoDartsPro platform.
Since the game is such a good game and such good fun to play, it has been the most popular game since it was launched first time back in 2017. The game has three parts:
Shanghai 10-15 | Three darts on each number |
Doubles 1-20+BULL | One dart on each double |
Shanghai 15-20 | Three darts on each number |
The maximum score is 3380, but that has never been achieved. The great GoDartsPro member Alan Soutar streamed a session of the game during Covid lockdown, when we arranged the JDC Virtual, and scored 2309, and therefore got the official world record for the game. That’s a tough score to beat!
For a JDC player to grade up they need to have played at least 6 out of 8 weeks in a Season.
With the latest update we now also show the monthly average stats for the premium player when the game is started one year back. This to make it more useful and challenging to play. If you reach for example the RED level one month, you don’t want to go down to BLUE the next month.
Hey, I’m not a JDC player, what does the levels mean for me and how should I look at my stats?
I went to the source, and asked the father of the game, Steve Brown, and he replied:
“It’s always hard to categorize but to give you and idea, you could look at the levels like this:
White 0-149 = Improver
Purple 150-299 = Novice
Yellow 300-449 = Local League player
Green 450-599 = Super League player
Blue 600-699 = County player
Red 700-849 = Challenge Tour Player
Black 850-1249 = Q-School Contender
GOLD 1250 and above = Pro player!”
That is, if your monthly average (with several games played) is above 850 it could be a good idea to register for Q-School next time! Good to know!
The best way to use this game as a tool for training is to play the game regularly to build up honest statistics to measure your current level. Make sure to only play the game when you’ve done a proper warm-up and are fully focused for the task to play a session of the game. Just because it is used by the junior players, doesn’t make it an easy game! Since the 2nd part of the game is doubles, and you only get 1 dart at each double, it is crucial that you are fully warmed-up and are able to focus on every dart.
When you’ve at least played 10 sessions a month and got your average level, you’ve got a target for next month. Now practise hard and try to beat the previous months average! At least try to lower your average but if you do, “Darts is not a sprint, it is a MARATHON!”.
